Plant Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is a specialist field. Maintenance outsourcing can be a cost-effective solution to realise improved equipment reliability.

Reliability Improvement

Condition Monitoring

Our condition monitoring techniques help determine the condition of in-service equipment to allow for convenient scheduling of remedial tasks and the prevention of unexpected breakdowns.

By knowing which equipment needs remedial maintenance, clients can better plan work. What would have been unscheduled stops become shorter and less frequent, thus increasing overall asset availability. Other benefits include increased equipment life, improved plant safety, fewer incidents with a negative impact on the environment, and optimised spare parts stock holding.

The condition based monitoring techniques we employ include Vibration Analysis, Thermography, Ultrasound (Acoustic), and Oil Sampling. We have a dedicated team of reliability engineers skilled in conducting these techniques and our mainstream engineers are provided with training to ensure they recognise when the introduction of these predictive maintenance techniques will provide benefit.

Engineering Compliance

Making sure manufacturing assets and infrastructure are safe and compliant is a legal requirement and an essential responsibility for all personal, plant managers and owners.

Our team work with clients to survey existing compliance arrangements to identify the gap between what they have and what they need, or work with recommendations from independent surveys and then provide costed work packages to ensure they meet their engineering compliance responsibilities.

Machine Safety and PUWER Maintenance

We work in partnership with manufacturers to provide pragmatic and tailored solutions that will help you meet your legal requirements within The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).

Musk has a standard approach that can be tailored to meet budgetary and production requirements whilst ensuring you meet compliance with statutory regulations and ensuring safety for your employees. Our standard approach can be adopted at any stage of your compliance journey and typically consists of:

PUWER or Machinery Design Risk Assessment aligned ISO 12100 on an individual or all of your infrastructure and manufacturing assets identifying shortfalls, gaps and hazards that fall foul of the regulations and recognised British Standards.

  • A tailored work package delivering design, manufacture and installs removing or reducing any hazards identified.
  • Managing and maintaining the required documentation and assets to ensure compliance is met long term.
DSEAR – Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations

Musk can provide assistance with the compliance of electrical and non-electrical installations in potentially explosive atmospheres for new and existing plant.

We partner with manufacturers to ensure that their new or existing equipment and assets are safe and remain compliant with DSEAR.

The Musk standard approach can be tailored to support at any stage and provides assurance that you are compliant and meeting your legal obligations.

Our approach typically consists of risk assessing, hazardous area classification (zonal drawings), registering and inspecting assets, corrective remedials and new installations to then managing and maintaining your regulatory assets and documentation.

We help clients achieve full compliance under the mandatory requirements of IEC / BS EN 60079-17/14, DSEAR (Dangerous Substances in Explosive Atmospheres Regulations), The Equipment Directive ATEX 95 (94/9/EC) and the workers Directive ATEX 137 (99/92/EC).

Electrical Installation and Testing

As a NICEIC registered company with Comp-Ex qualified personnel, Musk provides a certified industrial electrical installation service.

We can support your industrial electrical installation process from start-to-finish. This includes the initial design stage through to all electrical testing, system commissioning, calibration and production sign-off. We can start from a new site, replace obsolete plant equipment or update existing electrical installations.

Our full service ranges from cable management systems, mains distribution and power cabling through to control and instrumentation. Services include industrial cable tray, armoured power and instrument cable installations, electrical trace heating and fire alarm system installations.

Musk conduct all testing and inspection in accordance with BS7671:2008 Wiring Regulations. These regulations state that every new electrical installation and alteration, or extension to an existing electrical installation, must be inspected and tested before being put into service. It is also recommended that all fixed wiring installations be tested for safety periodically. We can support you to ensure your plant meets these requirements.

Pressure Systems Installation and Maintenance

The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) require pressure systems to be inspected in accordance with a written scheme of examination.

We assist manufacturers in making sure their existing Pressure Systems Regulations 2000 (PSSR) infrastructure, regimes and installations meet regulatory requirements rectifying any gaps and shortfalls.

Mechanical and Electrical Services

Musk can improve production and process assets by providing a managed mechanical and electrical service, led by qualified and experienced engineering personnel.

We have a proven record of delivering M&E services to many major clients and have the capacity, experience and skills to provide a cost-effective on-site, mechanical and electrical service as part of a holistic asset care strategy.

Plant Decommissioning

We have carried out many decommissioning projects and can operate as the principal contractor. Our team will project manage the task under Construction, Design and Management Regulations (CDM), whilst physically removing redundant process equipment safely for use elsewhere.
