MEET THE APPRENTICE

Andrew Barr - Apprentice Electrician

ANDREW BARR

Age: 20

Title: Apprentice Electrician undertaking SVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation, Parker Technical Services

How did you hear about the apprenticeship opportunity?

Parker is well-known as a business, but I heard about the apprenticeship opportunity through one of my relatives

When did you start your apprenticeship at Parker and how long is the course?

I started in September 2019 and the course is 4 years long.

Are you enjoying the apprenticeship at Parker so far and which elements do you think are the most interesting / have you enjoyed the most?

Yes, I’m really enjoying it. The best part is probably being able to learn whilst on the job and work as part of a team.

"Andrew was awarded electrical apprentice of the year in his first year and was just pipped to the post this year taking second place, an achievement testament to what we do as a business for our apprentices, and his own commitment."

Darren McWilliams, Electrical Contracts Manager

ANDREW'S APPRENTICE JOURNEY SO FAR...

Have you been involved in any standout projects?

I am really enjoying working on the Broomielaw project at the moment, a major office fit out in Glasgow.

What key skills are you learning during your apprenticeship?

I’m learning all the time in terms of expertise, but in general I think it’s communication skills, time-keeping and working with others that sets the apprenticeship apart.

How have you found the support whilst undertaking your apprenticeship?

The entire team have been really helpful throughout.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to other people considering it?

Absolutely, yes.

What do you see yourself doing in 3-5 years?

Working on site as a qualified electrician.

Andrew
