Creating a safe, controlled-risk environment for your employees

What is Engineering Compliance?

In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, all employers have a legal responsibility to provide and maintain “plant and systems of work that are, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risks to health.”

Engineering compliance creates a safe, controlled-risk environment for your employees, but it can often be a complex and confusing minefield of legislation encompassing multiple different factors, from risk assessments and surveys to machinery upgrades and maintenance, including the reviewing, updating and storage of technical drawings and other documentation.

We will work with you to demystify engineering compliance, clarifying the best course of action for your individual business helping you to keep your colleagues safe whilst you achieve your legal compliance requirements.

Whether you’re working proactively to achieve compliance, or are responding to an HSE Improvement Notice, we will partner with you and provide the expertise you need to keep your workplace, machinery & equipment safe and compliant. We are here to support you in your compliance journey, making the process of achieving compliance as straightforward and stress-free as possible.

The Compliance Journey

The steps involved in reaching legal compliance vary from company to company and project to project and can even be different for individual pieces of machinery.

Watch our short video where we break down the journey to compliant status from different starting points.

Wherever you are in the compliance process, our expert engineers can support and guide you, and your business, to make sure you can meet your legal obligations and keep your employees safe in the most straightforward, non-disruptive and cost-effective manner possible.

Why is Compliance important?

When something goes wrong, we don’t get to choose the outcome.

Engineering compliance is more than just a box-ticking exercise. It is a crucial part of your workplace health & safety, and you have a legal and moral obligation to conform to the set standards and legislation. As an employer, you have a responsibility to make sure everybody gets home safely.  A proactive approach to legal compliance will help you make sure you achieve that.

In addition to the risk of accident, you could also face significant financial penalties for failure to achieve and maintain compliance. HSE fines are technically unlimited and often scaled – the larger the firm the larger the cost of the fine.

In addition to fines, company directors are liable in the case of accidents and compliance failures, and in serious cases can face jail time of up to two years and a ban from being a company director for up to 15.

Engineering compliance is vital for both the safety of individual employees and across your entire company. A positive, organised approach to compliance and the support of a specialist engineering compliance team such as Edwin James Group, can help remove the risk to you and your business.
