Parker Technical Services was appointed to deliver MEP services for the consolidation of Quality Assurance Laboratories into a modern purpose built facility for a multinational pharmaceutical company.
History
Parker’s multinational pharmaceutical company client site was expanding its operation to take a more pivotal role in the supply of pharmaceutical API and so the consolidation of their Quality Assurance laboratories into a modern purpose-built facility was prioritised over all other projects.
Facilities involved with quality assurance were spread across three buildings on the site with their newest laboratory taking up a corner of Building 123, along with general office space, the site canteen and the medical centre.
The works required the complete refurbishment of Building 123 to relocate all QA facilities under one roof. The vision was for a flexible, safe and efficient state-of-the-art laboratory that was also energy efficient and a pleasant space for employees.
Solution
Parker worked closely with the client and designers to develop the MEP design in three key stages. The design was refined so that the risks to cost and delivery were minimised, without affecting the overall concept. Parker also undertook a programme of extensive surveys of the existing building, focusing on accessible and unused areas first, with decanted areas following on. Areas that could not be surveyed in this manner were assessed during annual site shut down periods.
The result was ACDP CL1 laboratories with numerous state-of-the-art features and facilities including;
Decontamination, eyewash and drench shower facilities; Toxic gas safe assembly areas; new stability incubators; additional and larger office spaces with modern conferencing facilities; classical/ physical properties, chromatography and central preparation laboratory; locker rooms; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) storage facilities; toilets and shower rooms; a tea room and sample receipt and write up areas.
Result
Parker undertook the design and construction of the MEP Services for the Building 123 Quality Assurance Laboratories, improving both compliance and safety.
Good relationships based on honesty and trust were formed and maintained throughout the life of the project and any disruption was kept to an absolute minimum.
Expectations were managed and the client could plan their production works accordingly.
